5/06/2026 - On June 4, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the annual resolution on the “Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia, Georgia.”
The Diplomatic Society of Georgia expresses its gratitude to all member states that co-sponsored and supported the resolution. The supportive and principled position taken on this issue of utmost importance to Georgia clearly shows who Georgia’s true partners are.
The consolidation of support for this resolution is the result of two decades of consistent efforts by several generations of Georgian diplomats, aimed at keeping this critically important matter high on the international agenda and strengthening the international community’s engagement in addressing this issue.
It should also be emphasized that against the backdrop of the ongoing occupation of Georgian territories and Russia’s aggressive actions, it is essential to make greater use of United Nations platforms by advancing initiatives related to other components of the Russia-Georgia conflict.
