May 26 is a symbol of Georgia’s freedom, national unity, and unwavering commitment to independence. The restoration of Georgian statehood 108 years ago laid the foundation for a democratic and sovereign state and established the Western aspirations that continue to define our nation’s path today.
Since regaining independence, Georgia has devoted consistent and determined effort to securing its rightful place within the community of Western democracies. We have worked to deepen relations with our allies and partners while strengthening our role as a reliable,
responsible, and constructive member of the international community. The invaluable support of our friends and strategic partners has been instrumental in consolidating Georgia’s democracy, strengthening state institutions, and safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. For a nation with more than 20 percent of its territory under Russian occupation, the strengthening of international partnerships and the advancement of cooperation, rather than isolation and confrontation, remain matters of profound strategic importance.
A professional diplomatic service, independent from political pressures and grounded in competence, institutional continuity, and excellence, constitutes one of the essential pillars of Georgian statehood. Georgian diplomacy carries a solemn responsibility to protect the national interests, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of our country, while faithfully advancing Georgia’s strategic foreign policy objectives, foremost among them integration into the European and Euro-Atlantic space. This mission demands integrity, resilience,
professionalism, and an unwavering dedication to the future of the Georgian state.
Georgia’s history teaches us that independence is neither permanent nor guaranteed. It is a hard-won achievement that requires constant vigilance, sustained effort, and steadfast adherence to democratic values. Throughout history, the Georgian people have repeatedly demonstrated enduring devotion to freedom, sovereignty, and national dignity.
Moving forward, civic unity around the state and fidelity to the values enshrined in the Constitution of Georgia will remain the cornerstone of our efforts to preserve independence and secure Georgia’s rightful place among free, democratic, and prosperous nations.
The Georgian Diplomatic Society congratulates on Georgia’s Independence Day!
